Shopping Successes: Nordstrom & Ann Taylor Loft

I wrote on Sunday about how my mom went absolutely crazy at Anthropologie this weekend (yay!) (click here), but I managed to pick up a few pretties of my own on our shopping trip.

Some of you may recall me writing (er...whining) about not having many pairs of fun shoes (click here). Well, I received my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview catalog and immediately zeroed in on the Sofft Fiorella Pumps in Dark Purple Suede. When I arrived at the store, there was literally an entire display dedicated to them! These run true to size. Unfortunately, my store had no purple pairs left in size 9, but an 8.5 was a smidge too small and the 9.5 was a smidge too big. Luckily, the super helpful SA located a purple pair for me online and they are on their way to my house as I type this. Hurray!

Cindi over at Simply Cindi got these shoes too (click here) and I just love them with her polka dotted skirt! It sounds like purple was limited at her store too so if you want purple, better act fast!

One of the things I love about the shoe department at Nordstrom is that they bring out other suggestions for you if what you want isn't available in your size. Yes, I know they probably work on some type of commission and just want to make a sale, but it annoys me so much at other stores when the SA comes out from the back and says, "No, we don't have that color in size 9." Ugh - really? You aren't going to bring me that color in size 9.5? Or maybe this other shoe which is near identical to the one you wanted?

But this weekend, I was at Nordstrom, so when my SA emerged with the news that I'd have to order my Sofft Fiorella Pumps in purple, she was also carrying three pairs of other shoes for me to try on! And guess what, other non-Nordstrom shoe stores? I bought two of those shoes too (hm - well I mean that I bought four of those shoes, but two pairs total. Can you tell I've spent the weekend with my dad whose running joke when I show him a new shoe is, "That's nice. Did you get one to match?" Cute, dad. Cute.)

I also got the Me Too Precious Flat in black leather. I've never even tried on this brand before, but oh my, they were comfortable. Very cushioned and padded and the leather was so soft - they didn't rub my heels at all! I bought this in a size 9.5 so they ran a tad small. I tried on the size 9 in the pewter color, but they were a little too tight and I really preferred the contrast of the jewels on the black leather: the pewter and jewel combination was a bit much for me!

Finally, I got the Calvin Klein Lillian Flat in pebbled anthracite metallic. This shoe runs big - I had to buy a 8.5 and I haven't worn a 8.5 in...um...ever. Initially, the SA brought this shoe out in black leather which I didn't really care for, but then she brought out the metallic version and I was definitely a fan.

I admit that I went a little crazy, but now my shoe collection is updated for fall and I finally will have some fun shoes as opposed to just black pumps every day. I'm very excited and now have another reason to look forward to the fall (the first reason being the end of the miserable oppressive heat that has basically made me want to cry every single day for the last month).

After Nordstrom, we headed to Ann Taylor Loft. My mom had her birthday coupon and wanted to find something so she could use it. She tried on a few things and nothing worked so she offered the coupon to me. I had spotted the Silk Dress with Ruffle V-Neck and trotted off to the fitting room with it. I ended up loving it and then loved it even more when I realized that it was included in the store's promotion of 50% off select new arrivals! Then with my mom's $15 off birthday coupon, I got the dress for $35. Sweet! It was a little wrinkling from being folded, but I ironed it once we got home and it's as good as new. I'm thinking this dress might be a contender for my outfit on Friday when I meet Dr. May!

What did everyone else get at the Nordstrom sale? Luckily my Nordstrom is 30 minutes away or else I'd probably be back every night to get the double bonus points they are offering! All in all, both my mom and I had successful days shopping, but it just makes me miss her even more for living so far away and jealous of my sister who lives right around the corner from her.

Boo for mothers and sisters living too far away!

But yay for partial family reunions and shopping!

  1. Thanks for the shout out, Kathleen! I KNEW you would get those pumps...aren't they just the best??? I normally would have worn red pumps with my outfit today, but this pair was screaming for me to wear her! I love it and almost want it in the black and gray as well. Looks like you did great with your shoe purchases though. I love all the flats you bought. I can't wear flats too much so I only own a few to get me by. Oh yeah for the Sofft shoes, they ran out of the 8.5 but like you said, the SA brought out a 9 and also a 8 that's a wide...which worked. I loved Nordies. They're from Seattle so I'm surrounded by them. Eeek...scary.

  2. Haha as soon as I clicked on your post yesterday, I was like HEY, I know those shoes! I'm excited for them to arrive.

I've been trying to branch out to flats recently. We tend to get snow in the winter so heels are a bad idea when the sidewalks are slick. These two pairs included, now I have four pairs so I'm slowly starting to collect them.
