Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews (Stemmed Sweetbriar Dress, Obscured Flora Dress, One After Another Cardi, Yemaya Cardigan)

The first thing that caught my eye this weekend at my local Anthropologie was the Caballo Falls Dress in a new color! It's already online in navy and costs the same as the original version ($168). Personally, I think I liked the teal color better, but this is great news for anyone who missed out on this amazingly flattering dress! I also spotted the Tucked Away Blooms Cardigan in blue - the price is the same, but the material feels a bit different, more soft and cottony whereas the multi-colored version (that I own) is more gauzy.

Stemmed Sweetbriar Dress, size 10 ($168)
Pretty pretty robins egg blue dress - I was so happy to see you at my store this weekend! I love this dress: the color, the cut, the empire waist, the smocked back. *sighs* It's perfection! For some reason, I thought this was much more expensive than it really is so I was surprised when I saw the $168 tag. That's still too much though since this one would be really limited in where/how I could wear it. Work is out of the question. And it's rather dressy for weekend wear. I also wasn't crazy about the big random poof on the right shoulder. My arm is covering it here, but it just seems like an unnecessary random embellishment on an otherwise perfect dress. I'll sale dance my little heart out, but even $80 is pricey given this dress's limitations.

Obscured Flora Dress, size Large ($128)
I sized up to Large in this one because it's a slimmer fit skirt. As predicted, the top is hanging off of me. Even if I sized down to a Medium though, the neck is too revealing for work. I'd need a cami for sure. This pattern is...interesting. I equal parts adore it and despise it. This one has a size zip, but the material is really stretchy and forgiving so I didn't even bother unzipping it. The material is soft and the dress has pockets (but they are higher set in the location of a pleat). I didn't hate this dress, but I wasn't in love with it either.

One After Another Cardi, size Medium ($98)
Here's a reader request that honestly I never would have tried on in a million years. This cardigan is, however, much prettier in person than it is online. The ruffles are alternating lace and sheer fabric so the cardigan has a nice antique feel to it. The Medium fit fine (the buttons weren't pulling) and the material seemed thick enough that it wouldn't be see through. The ruffles did have the undesired effect (for me, at least) of making the sweater rather boxy. I look at these pictures and feel like I have no shape whatsoever which isn't exactly what I'm going for when I get dressed in the morning. Perhaps the length is the culprit? I'm unsure of exactly what the issue is, but I will say that I'm sad that this cardigan doesn't look great on me because it really is lovely and I would have considered buying it.

Yemaya Cardigan, size Medium ($98)
I'd been intrigued by this cardigan when I saw it online because I couldn't figure out how it worked logistically. Basically, you have a cardigan without any sort of closure and then underneath striped interior buttons shut. Interesting.  I liked the lilac color and could totally see wearing this with a skirt or pants to work. My first question, of course, is how does it look unbuttoned?

Hey - it doesn't look that bad! This actually surprised me since I figured all the extra material would be a nightmare unbuttoned. The material is soft - I wonder if this might be too hot for summer. The sleeves are long and it's rather thick. I would definitely wear this on a nice spring or fall day. There's no way that I'd pay $98 for it, but it's a bit odd so I'm hoping that sends it to sale quickly at which point, I will pounce!
Don't forget to enter my giveaway! Stay tuned tomorrow morning for a Queen Song of the Week and (weather permitting) the debut of my Graphical Dress!

  1. I love the idea of the sweetbriar dress but you are right, there's not many places you can wear that to, which is sad because if I had that dress I'd wanna wear it all the time.

  3. I really like the Yemaya cardi. I've been dying to see the blogger reviews since I also couldn't picture what it would look like not buttoned up all the way. I really like how you paired with with a plain white tee underneath. I think it look great on you too...much more flattering than the One After Another cardi.

  4. Cindi - I have that problem with Anthro a lot. I fall in love and then crash back to reality when I realize that the item is totally unpractical. Boo!

Debbie - The Sweetbriar Dress was cotton. It was a nice soft (not stiff or canvasy) and lightweight material. Very comfy!

Yvonne - I was shocked it looked nice unbuttoned. I was on the fence up until that point, but then I was sold. Sale dancing my little heart out on that one!

  5. I bought the sweetbriar dress this summer and i made it work for work! I put a white tank underneath it for a little more coverage and wore a white shrug so the tank straps wouldn't show. You could still pretty much see the whole dress too. I love this dress!
