I Want to Ride My Bicycle: Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews

So to fully appreciate this review, I recommend you listen to this as you read. Be sure to appreciate the bicycle bell solo in the middle of the song! Um and if you are really feeling saucy, watch the official music video which requires you to sign into Youtube to verify that you are older than 18 (go here - the official video was uploaded by queenofficial)! Oh those scandalous little lads from Queen!

Spotted Bellflower Tank ($68), size Medium
Guys, you should be so proud of me - I remembered to take a picture of the collar tag and of the price tag because I knew this baby wasn't online yet! Yay me! *EDIT* It's finally online so I added the link above.

I grabbed this top because the polka dots reminded me of the Breezy Ride Cardigan (which will be mine - oh yes, it will be mine). My love for this shell was not so strong but it is definitely cute. There is a thin elastic band across the bottom so you can position the shell anywhere along your torso. That was nice and made the shell less boxy. The polka dot details were kind of annoying - they are on strings across the top of the shell so every time I moved, they were flipping up and twisting around. I wish they were tacked down because the entire time I was wearing the shell, they were misaligned in one way or another. Annoying! The Medium fit fine - I might consider it on sale but not for $68.

Two-Wheeler Shirtdress ($128), size 6

Obviously my song recommendation is based on the Two-Wheeler Dress finally appearing in my local store! Jacqueline had reviewed it here and mentioned that it ran huge. My store had a 6 and a 10 - the 10 looked enormous so I grabbed the 6. Rather shockingly, it fit so anyone who actually wears a 6 or smaller is sized out of this one. I really wish the color was the vibrant blue shown on the website, but it is definitely more of a dusty or chambray blue. The bicycles are absolutely adorable and made me smile the entire time I had the dress on. The armband is tight - really tight. I momentarily had visions of being cut out of the dress as I tried to take it off. I'd like to see how it looks with a belt too because that could be cute. As it stands, I wish it were any other color and I'd wishlist it but since I already own a shirtdress in this exact blue color, I'm going to pass.

Knotted Poppies Dress ($158), size 10
Last week, I posted that I loved this dress online (see here). Yet when I saw it in the store, I didn't even recognize it. I saw it and thought, "Oh how pretty," but I didn't immediately say, "Oooh the poppy dress." I wish I had recognized it because I would have thought to tie the sash in the back like it is online. Drat! This dress had a side zip and pockets. There was also some smocking in the back which I hadn't realized online (and I don't really know what it was for since this dress has substantial sleeves). I wish it had smocking at the hips. I've had this problem with Anthro dresses before (most notably Swirling Villages, Surplice, see here) - the dress fits but the lining doesn't. Weird. The outer part of this dress was just snug enough that the lining wasn't completely to blame, however, so it wouldn't be worth having relined. The top also ran a little big in the 10 so sizing up wouldn't have worked. Oh well.

Fiber Optics Dress ($198), size 8

I have purposely avoided trying this dress on for quite some time. The reason? Because every blogger I've seen try it on has looked positively adorable in it (see it on Maria at Infinite Whimsey here and Anjali at goldenmeans here. Anjali also links to a bunch of other bloggers wearing it in her review). I was saving myself from myself! Today I noticed that the stock in my store was dwindling so if I wanted to try this dress on, I had to act fast. I bit the bullet and grabbed it.

Hahahahah good joke Anthropologie. Seriously, where is the real Fiber Optics Dress because this monstrosity is clearly not the same dress that everyone else looked so pretty in! First off, this dress was super short on me - practically indecent for the weekend let alone for work! The ties were a huge mess and one hung suspiciously lower than the other. I couldn't figure out how to properly configure them (and this is a real wrap dress so correct tie location is pretty important!). The color also looked ridiculous on me - I glanced at myself quickly in the mirror and thought someone wearing a Peter Pan costume had joined me in my fitting room. I'm glad I tried it on because I am definitely over this dress now!

I'll post the rest of my reviews later in the week. As promised, the second edition will contain the Silken Pathways Dress which I may be wearing to my super hip [and super imaginary] outing with RT and Dr. May (see here). Sweet!

  1. ooh, i really like the knotted poppies dress on you! nice colors and shape. It's a bummer that you already have a blue shirtdress because I LOVE the bicycles on you! You should get it anyway!! (Yes, I admit ulterior motives... I just caved and bought the Reed shirtdress in blue plaid on sale, so I don't want to be out of the running for the bikes one, too!) Except I got my regular size 8 in the Reed---maybe I should have sized down in that if it's similar to the Bikes dress? Have you tried on the Reed dress?

  2. No I never tried on the Reed dress so I don't know how it runs. Kim at Anthroholic and Sara at You, Me and Anthropologie have both tried on the plaid version so maybe check their blogs for sizing recommendations!

  3. The Two Wheeler Dress looks really good on you! Based on what you said in your review, I think I am sadly sized out of this one :( . I totally agree with Suzeq, you should get this dress...it's too cute to pass on!

  4. The Two-Wheeler Shirtdress is soooo cute on you. Please buy! And this is off topic, but I didn't get a chance to comment yesterday: I also die from the fabulousness that is the Woodblock Print Skirt! I gasped when I saw it yesterday. Hope your store gets it soon so you can grab it! I feel like my store rarely gets what I'm looking for. I may break down and pay shipping for that little lovely.

  5. Oooh you all are such enablers. I had totally fallen out of love with the shirtdress and now I'm considering! It is so cute!

Autumn - I'm so excited about that skirt and it's so reasonably priced. My store is funny about getting things in stock - sometimes it gets new exotic arrivals right away and sometimes it takes months for the basic stuff to show up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though!

  6. I may be getting ahead of you, but how was the grey dress/blue sprinkle pattern hanging in the back of you? I think by Girls of Savoy? I saw a couple of bloggers try it on and it's not online yet. I'm dying to know how much and if it's TTS. No anthro near me. :(

I think you look great in all the dresses, even the Fiber Optics! Thanks for the reviews!

  7. Gemma - that dress is included in the second part of these reviews (which I'll probably put up Thursday in the a.m.). The dress is really pretty - I think it was $158, but that's just a guess. I don't have the info right in front of me.

  8. I bought the Two Wheeler Dress today - a 4 (my usual size) fit very snugly so I bought the 6. I bought a belt to wear with it - don't know what it is called - it is red with smallish white dots, wide and buckles in front with brown leather short straps. I got a lot of fitting room compliments and several other people asked for their sizes to try it on.

  9. CD - Yay the dress is so pretty. I'm glad you got it. I think the sizing issue must be related to body shape. Some people are finding that it runs huge and others say its TTS.

  10. I stumbled on this blog after doing a search for "Anthropologie bicycle dress." It seems to be sold out at the website, but I grabbed one of the last ones at the store, and it does run huge. The size 2 fits me perfectly and I usually wear a six. It's such a cute dress. This is a nice website. :)
