Courtship Blooms Knit ($58), size Medium
From the bust up, I love this top. From the bust down - meh. I do not look good in this surplice style hemline and yet Anthro seems to be a bit obsessed with it. The Medium fit fine and this tank is so soft and pretty. The rosettes are subtle and I love how they spread over the shoulder and down the back. With a straight bottom, I would have bought this top right away, but with the surplice bottom, I had to pass.
Curated Tee ($48), size Medium
I tried on this top to show everyone that I'm an equal opportunity blogger. Yes, I called this shirt out last week for looking like RT's Wembley shirt (see here), but I saw it in my store and thought, "I should at least try this one on and give it a chance." I'm glad I did because I liked it! The button detail on the shoulders is adorable and the rouched sleeves dressed the shirt up a bit. I could totally wear this to work! The material is slightly thin - I was wearing a nude bra and while it wasn't see through, it was close. I might do a cami underneath to be comfortable. This one is wish listed!
Molded & Melded Tee ($48), size Medium
I'm not sure why I held out trying on this one for so long. I think I would just distracted with something else and forget about it. This top is great - a nice straight hemline and some rouching/rosettes along the bust. Perfection! The Grey was nice, but I'm really admiring the Sky online. I wish that had been in my store to try on. The Medium fit great and I liked this one a lot. Wish listed!
Tartan Rose Tieback ($88), size Medium
This is another top that lost me below the bust. I adored the top half of this shirt. The rosette, while huge, worked on my frame because my bust is the small part. The bottom half though made me look pregnant and this may be TMI but Husband has a pair of boxer shorts in this exact same plaid. At $88, even on sale this one would hover around $40 and I wasn't in love with it that much. Next!
Crossroads Tee ($68), size Medium
Here's another surplice style bottom. This one sits slightly nicer on me than the Courtship Blooms Tee did, but I still wasn't a fan. This material is also super thin. The glaring light spot near my bust is my bra showing through the material (and the top wasn't tight at all). I loved the purple color (*sigh* thinks fondly of the Climbing Cowlneck in purple), but this one wasn't meant to be either.
I tried on a ton this weekend. Check out my guest post on Roxy's blog here and then a third for skirts and some more tops on Thursday. You also may see a picture of me trying on my first pair of shorts at Anthropologie (and you might not - depending on how bad the picture looks!) I know you'll all just be on the edge of your seats waiting for that one!
Thank you!! I just spent an hour on their site the other day looking as tops just like this. Since I work in a smart casual office I usually wear basic tops with interest or embellishment and bring a fitted blazer or jacket to pop on top if I need to dress it up a bit for a meeting.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you an I are very similar sizes so this was very helpful!! I esp. love the molded and melded T... I must have it!!
Your tops reviews are identical to how I felt about the 3 from your set that I tried on - I am a size 4 or small at Anthro, so small busted and had the same experience with the Courtship Blooms knit (such a disappointment, so many lovely colors, but seriously difficult hemline to position, nearly belly baring - grr), tartan tieback (too much going on with the rose, the plaid, not work appropriate for me), crossroads tee - I so wanted to love with the lovely color, knit, basketweave type of collar, but too SHEER Anthro, too sheer. Better luck next time!! (There's always more at Anthro).
ReplyDeleteKendra - Thanks! My work wardrobe sounds very similar to yours and Anthro certainly delivers on the pretty tops with embellishments!
ReplyDeleteDenise - It's interesting to hear that different body types have the same issues with some items. I think girls who are size 8+ sort of assume that you smaller girls look awesome in everything! And so funny that you said belly baring about the Courtship Blooms - I had the exact same issue (but didn't mention it here) so clearly that's some sort of a design flaw and not a flaw in the person trying it on!
